Working from a plein air sketch, this piece is from one of my favorite places along the New Hampshire side of the Connecticut River. It is one of the rare places where there is a flat plane of pastures and fields looking west across the river into Vermont. The mist that settles on the river was beginning to rise, obscuring the carved outlines of the Palisades that line the Vermont side of the river. The Connecticut River at this place also delineates where the African plate and the North American plate met when the supercontinent of Pangaea formed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.
